PhD Program Goals

The PhD program is designed to train highly competent academics and researchers in the field. It is aimed at individuals who are already working in a research capacity at a higher education institution or a research establishment and wish to earn a PhD qualification which will help advance their careers. It is also aimed at persons who have a research Master’s qualification and wish to complete a PhD program in order to embark on an academic career. Program participants have the option of specializing in business administration, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Management, Healthcare Management, or any other area of management for which the Institution has adequate thesis supervision capacity among its faculty members. The program will equip students with the necessary analytical skills for carrying out high-quality research in management.

The PhD program goals are as follows

  • Graduates will have expert knowledge in a broad domain of management and in a focused area or concentration within management and will be fully qualified to instruct in a university environment.
  • Graduates will be fully qualified to conduct publishable scholarly research in all functional areas of management.

Each of these program goals are seen in terms of specific learning objectives which students become thoroughly familiar with during the course of their educational experience in the program.

It is structured in such a way that enables students gain experience rapidly in presenting their ongoing thesis research in seminars and workshops. All enrolled students in the program are expected to make presentations in these research seminars and workshops at least twice a year. The seminars and workshops provide students with the opportunity of presenting their ongoing research and obtaining feedback from their peers, faculty members, and invited guests.

Applicants to the program are required to submit a 15 page research proposal as part of their application package. The research proposal will enable the Admissions Committee to determine, in an objective manner, the coherence of the proposed thesis project, the applicant’s knowledge of pertinent literature, the intended methodology of the thesis research, and overall suitability of the applicant to successfully undertake PhD studies in management.

The program is placed on level 8 of the French and European Qualifications Framework (EQF, 2012). It corresponds to the 3rd Cycle of qualifications as defined by the Qualifications Framework in the European Higher Education Area, (QF-EHEA, 2005).

Total duration for completing the program on a full-time basis is three (3) years. And for part-time enrolment it is five (5) years. This is divided into courses, research seminars and workshops, and the PhD thesis. The course component of the program amounts to 60 ECTS credit points. The remaining component (i.e. the PhD thesis) represents a total of 120 ECTS credit points.
